Lapu-Lapu City Prepares for JKA Philippines’ Next Chapter After Davao Success
The planned JKA Philippines National Event will feature the JKA International Gasshuku, Qualification and Dan Examination, and Tournament, bringing opportunities for karate training, rank advancement, competition, and cultural exchange to the city.
PBGEN Ysmael S. Yu (Ret.), Liaison of JKA Philippines and Overall Head of the Preparation Committee, together with Ramon Fernando, Jr., recently visited to discuss the preparations and support needed. The proposed use of Hoopsdome was among the matters considered.
Councilor Janvi Dela Serna, Sports Commissioner Vince Carungay, and SK Federation President OJ Carungay joined the discussions, placing local sports coordination and opportunities for young people among the key considerations.
Mr. Emeliano P. Murillo, CEO of JKA Philippines, is maintaining close oversight of preparations as the organizing team returns to the drawing board. Building on the Davao experience, the organization is working toward another successful event while developing coordination with its prospective host city.
For Lapu-Lapu City, the planned gathering offers an opportunity to welcome athletes and visitors while encouraging local interest in karate. Its training and tournament activities will connect sporting development with the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance.
City representatives welcomed JKA Philippines’ initiative and expressed readiness to work closely with the preparation committee as plans move forward.
With June 2027 as the target, organizers will continue refining the event program and logistical arrangements. Exact dates, final venue confirmation, and registration details will be released once finalized.
