Palace denies first lady detained in US

(UPDATE) MALACAÑANG on Thursday denied that first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos was held by law enforcers during her working visit to Los Angeles, California, last week. "There is no truth that the First Lady was held by any law enforcers while in Los Angeles or and in any other place," Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a statement. Castro said Araneta-Marcos arrived in Manila at around 5 a.m. Monday, and that at 5:58 a.m., "she was already on her way to her place from the airport." Several Facebook posts had claimed that the first lady was being detained in Los Angeles. The posts claim that her detention is linked to the death of Juan Paolo Tantoco, who passed away on March 9 in the US. The first lady was in California from March 5 to 8 to participate in the Manila International Film Festival, which officially opened on March 4. Based on her latest Facebook post, she was already in the Philippines on March 11. She turned over a check as a donation to the Girl Scouts of the Philippines at her office in Manila.
