Filipino rules Las Vegas women's billiards
(UPDATE) FILIPINA cue artist Rubilen Amit ruled the Kamui Las Vegas Women's Open after defeating Chinese Han Yu in the final (3-1), 4-2, 4-1, 3-4, 4-2, at the Rio All Suite Hotel on Sunday (Manila time). Amit bagged $22,500 in prize money, or P1.3 million, for dominating the 64-player field. The 43-year-old made it a double conquest in Las Vegas after claiming the Women's Challenge of Champions title that came with a $15,000 prize, or nearly P870,000. The two-time World 10-ball champion and one-time World 9-ball titlist defeated Russian Kristina Tkach in that 2-player field. Amit racked up a total of P2.1 million for her titles in Las Vegas. After a safety on the 5-ball, which Han could not pocket, Amit went on to run out the sixth game in the fourth set to clinch the 10-ball championship. It was a solid recovery for Amit, who lost the third set after winning the first two. Amit's final win over Han capped a five-game winning run that started after losing to fellow Filipino Chezka Centeno in the winners qualification. Centeno exited the tournament after a loss to Chou Chieh-Yu in the quarterfinals, 0-3. After losing to Centeno, Amit defeated Indonesian Silviana Lu in the losers qualification, 2-0; Briton Kelly Fisher in the last 16, 3-1; Taiwanese Wang Wan-Ling in the quarterfinal, 3-1; and Austrian Jasmin Ouschan in the semifinal, 3-1, before beating Han in the championship round.
