TMT School of Journalism to hold Newswriting Masterclass
THE Manila Times School of Journalism will conduct its Newswriting Masterclass, a one-day workshop designed to elevate the skills of campus journalists from different universities in the Philippines. The workshop is set for March 22, 2025, and will be conducted by Chin Wong, a veteran journalist who has over four decades of experience in the Philippine media landscape. Wong has been a practicing journalist since 1979 and has worked in some of the well-known newspapers in the country — Business Day, Manila Standard, and The Manila Times. He was also the editor and founder of Computerworld Philippines. Wong is also the writer of the books "Reporting on ICT" and "Ties That Bind." His experience in the field of journalism does not only stay in the field; Wong also imparts his knowledge to future and aspiring journalists, as he has also been teaching at the Ateneo de Manila University since 2002, including graduate classes at the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism. Participants will gain insights on how to make a story newsworthy, from the style to writing, gathering, and the do's and don'ts for an effective news lead. It will not only teach the participants the tools necessary to produce an accurate and precise news story but also impart knowledge about the challenges and opportunities of journalism in the country. The masterclass fee is set at P4,000 for student registration and P5,000 for regular registration. Interested participants may register at https://tmt.ph/masterclass-reg-form
