PH-China collaboration more crucial than ever
VICE President Sara Duterte has underscored the need for the Philippines and China to collaborate to promote peace for the benefit of both countries and the global community. The vice president's remarks were conveyed via video message on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The vice president extended her good wishes to the Chinese government and its people. "This momentous anniversary is a testament to the incredible progress and achievement of the Chinese people, whose resilience and vision have transformed China into a significant force in global affairs," Duterte said. "As neighbors, the Philippines and China share a relationship shaped by our history and geography. Our partnership is rooted in the principles of mutual trust and mutual respect as equal sovereign states," she added. According to the vice president, this solid foundation will allow both countries to continue strengthening their ties. "In an increasingly interconnected world, working together to promote peace and stability in our region is more important than ever, always grounded in international law. Our nations must cooperate to promote peace, cooperation, and a stable environment that will benefit our countries and the broader global community," she said. "We live in a world of complex challenges, including climate change, terrorism, and transnational crimes. These challenges are too large for any one nation to address alone. However, they also present us with opportunities for greater collaboration; together, the Philippines, China, and our international partners can find common ground and practical solutions to address these issues and create a safer, more secure, and more sustainable future for our people," Duterte said. She mentioned the emergence of new technologies, notably artificial intelligence, that present unprecedented opportunities for global growth. However, these advancements also entail responsibilities. "We must work together, sharing knowledge and fostering collaboration so that the benefits of these technologies are harnessed for the greater good of our economies and societies. Together, we can raise the standard of living for our people, creating opportunities that will endure for generations to come. This collaboration, based on mutual trust and respect, will enable us to build a future where both countries can thrive," she added. The Chinese Embassy in Manila, led by Ambassador Huang Xilian, celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China alongside friends and dignitaries, including first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and Senate President Francis Escudero. The Chinese envoy said China has transformed into a global force for growth and progress, "driving economic development and amicable ties across Asia." "As we look forward to the 50th anniversary of China-Philippines diplomatic ties in 2025, we remain steadfast in forging a future of friendship, cooperation, and shared prosperity," the Chinese envoy stressed. "We firmly believe that harmonious coexistence, friendship, cooperation, and common development align with our two peoples' shared desires and fundamental interests," he said.
