PAO provides legal, medical services to female inmates

THE Public Attorney's Office (PAO) on Tuesday conducted legal counseling to 792 inmates at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City. PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta said the inmates also received free medical and dental services during the event. Rueda-Acosta added she would seek the help of House Speaker Martin Romualdez to provide free dentures to over 2,000 CIW inmates. "Approximately 70 percent of the current population of CIW have tooth problems, and the PAO has promised them that we would immediately return to give them new dentures to have a fresh smile and new look as a result," the PAO chief said. "We have at least five dentists to take care of them, but we need the help of Speaker Romualdez, and I'm pretty confident that he would not say no because he is known to help the needy and underprivileged," she added. Overall, 122 inmates received legal advice, 96 received dental treatment, 150 received eye checkups and 421 received general medical consultation.
