More OFWs repatriated from Lebanon

TWENTY-NINE overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), including two children, were repatriated from Lebanon as tension escalated between the Arab country and Israel. The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) in Lebanon said on Thursday that the repatriation was voluntary. Upon their arrival at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the repatriates were welcomed by Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Assistance Division head Ace Millar, along with representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers and the Department of Social Welfare and Development. "OWWA, along with other government agencies, will continue to assist OFWs affected by turmoil in other countries, providing them with the necessary support for their return and reintegration in the Philippines," OWWA said in a statement. A total of 151 OFWs have already been repatriated from Lebanon since the Philippine embassy in Beirut urged Filipinos to get out of the country in August. Hezbollah launched small attacks against Israel across the Lebanon-Israel border, saying it would only stop when Israel ceases its war in Gaza.
