SPD nabs suspect for illegal sale of firearms

A 25-YEAR-OLD male student was the target of an operation to enforce the nationwide Comelec gun ban ahead of the 2025 national and local elections. The operation took place near Chino Roces Avenue Extension in Barangay Magallanes, Makati City. The suspect, identified only as "Jonathan," was arrested for failure to provide a Comelec exemption or legal authority to sell firearms. Unauthorized ownership, carrying, and sale of guns during the election period are strictly prohibited under Comelec Resolution 11067. The Special Operations Unit of the Southern Police District (SPD), in coordination with the District Investigation Division (DID), Intelligence Section, District Mobile Force Battalion, and the Makati City Police Station, successfully conducted a buy-bust operation leading to the arrest of the suspect involved in illegal firearms trading. Items found in his possession included a black rifle bag, an Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, and 40 rounds of caliber 5.7 live ammunition, a black Ruger pistol in a holster, a marked ₱1,000 bill, a 2018 Toyota Corolla Altis, several identification cards signed by the suspect, and a black Tumi sling bag. Additional items included a caliber 5.7 Ruger pistol (serial number 643-66977A), a 5.56 rifle type, and an SLR-B15 (with serial number). This effective operation is a component of the stepped-up fight against illegal firearms, which aims to protect public safety and prevent violence associated with elections. ADELFA CELESTINO
