Hospital in Manila opens new operating room complex
THE Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH) opened on Feb. 7 the Phase 2 of the newly renovated Operating Room Complex (ORC), expecting to serve more patients. The opening was led by president Arlene Ledesma, medical director Dr. Alberto Roxas, hospital director Dr. Hian Ho N. Kua, and chairman of Department of Surgery Dr. Roehl Salvador. The new area covers 879 square meters with nine renovated rooms and is also composed of 15 bed recovery rooms, two isolation rooms, and more conducive spaces for doctors, nurses, staff, patients and their families. The renovation of the MDH started back in 2017. In July 2024, it opened Phase 1 of the new ORC. It had a total of five theaters with two ophthalmology rooms. Ledesma said, "We are transforming the hospital inside and soon outside. We are undergoing major renovations everywhere, including services," said Ledesma, who also boasted MDH's robotic nurse, the first in Asia. "We can now raise the level of care given to our patients and allow them to have a better healing journey," Ledesma added. The renovation of these facilities of MDH aims to pave the way for a more modern and equipped ORC structure that is ready to accommodate the increasing demand for surgical procedures. The ORC Phase 2 is slated to be operational in February 2025.
