Marcos on Ramadan: 'Reflect deeply on purpose'

PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday urged Filipinos to "reflect deeply" on their purpose and extend kindness to those in need, as he joined the Muslim community in observance of the holy month of Ramadan. "I join the Islamic communities across the country and around the world in observing the Holy Month of Ramadan. This sacred season marks the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), a period for personal reflection, spiritual growth and a renewed commitment to faith for our beloved Muslim brothers and sisters," Marcos said in his message. "It is a time that calls us to reflect deeply on our purpose, to extend kindness to those in need and to uplift those around us," he added. Marcos said Ramadan, which embraces discipline and gratitude, "serves as a powerful and profound catalyst for social transformation." "With fasting, prayer and acts of charity, it fosters solidarity that cultivates a sense of belonging," the President said. "Together, let us find strength in the importance of humility and dedication to living with the values of faith. May this guide us in our thrust toward collective progress for us to reach the light of hope that shines brightly for all," he said. Muslims worldwide observe Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Fasting is considered an act of worship and holds great spiritual significance. It likewise reminds the faithful that God is the source of all sustenance.
