Go: PDP-Laban crippled by Duterte's absence

SEN. Bong Go has acknowledged that former president Rodrigo Duterte's arrest and transfer to The Hague is a setback for the candidates of PDP-Laban. "Former President Duterte is a big loss. When he's there, the PDP-Laban rallies are really crowded. And people listen to him because he's done a lot for the people. The people look up to him, so he's a big loss for us," Go said in Filipino, recognizing Duterte's influence and popularity in the party's political campaigns. He said the party is crippled without its most substantial figure. "We are truly devastated by the absence of former President Duterte. But life must go on. There are only fifty-four days before the elections; we have to work. That's why I am here today." Go, who is one of the party's senatorial bets, said he remains steadfast in fulfilling his responsibilities, following Duterte's advice before his arrest. He emphasized that his approach to public service — particularly in extending aid to the poor — was deeply influenced by Duterte's example. "I learned about helping the poor from him. He never interfered in our politics; he never interfered with me. He only reminded me of one thing: just do what is right, put the Filipinos first, put the people's welfare first, and you will never make a mistake in that," he said.
