EduAKsyon posts gains, poll shows

EDUAKSYON, a party-list pushing for educational reforms, continues to gain traction in the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) face-to-face survey sponsored by Stratbase Consultancy. The Stratbase-SWS survey, conducted from Feb. 15 to 19, 2025, positions EduAKsyon at 12th place, reflecting a steady upward trajectory since December 2024 and highlighting growing voter confidence in its advocacy. Initially securing the 20th spot with a 1.34 percent voter preference, EduAKsyon jumped to 13th place in the January 2025 survey with 1.55 percent. The latest data places the party-list at 12th, with a 1.48 percent voter preference — an improvement in rank despite a marginal dip in percentage. EduAKsyon is led by Michael Alexander Ang, the first nominee, a seasoned media executive and diplomat with extensive experience in international business and education advocacy; Kristjan Vincent Gargantiel, the second nominee, a lawyer and educator; and Aldrin Darilag, the third nominee, a commissioner at the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd). EduAKsyon aims to introduce sweeping reforms to elevate the educational system, and is committed to strengthening academic freedom by upholding the autonomy of higher education institutions in determining curricula and admission policies. It also seeks to reform the higher education curriculum by reducing redundancy in subjects covered by the K-12 system and implementing a "2+1" model, which consists of two years of classroom study followed by one year of on-the-job training. Another key proposal involves restructuring CHEd's role, shifting its focus to policy-setting rather than excessive regulation. The Stratbase-SWS survey polled 1,800 registered voters nationwide. It has a ±2.31 percent margin of error.
