DICT services uninterrupted despite Uy's resignation
(UPDATE) THE Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) will continue to function normally following the resignation of Secretary Ivan John Uy.DICT Assistant Secretary for Legal Affairs and spokesman Renato Paraiso gave the assurance on Friday as he officially confirmed that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially accepted Uy's resignation last Wednesday.On Thursday night, the Presidential Communications Office announced the Marcos' acceptance of Uy's resignation, and that an officer in charge will take over the department until the President appoints a new secretary.Paraiso said Uy "expressed his deep gratitude to President Marcos Jr. for affording him the opportunity to serve the Filipino people. As the third Secretary of the DICT, he supported President Marcos call for digitalization, spearheading the rollout of game-changing Government solutions such as the eGovPH App, eTravel, eLGU and eReport."Uy's "tenure also saw the expansion of the Free Public Internet Access Program to over 16,000 active sites nationwide, the program's widest reach yet since the enactment of the Free Internet Access in Public Places Act in 2017, as well as the issuance of an updated National Cybersecurity Plan," Paraiso said."Under his leadership, the Philippines made significant strides in improving its global standing in government digital transformation, cybersecurity, connectivity and inclusivity. Overall, we at the agency acknowledge Secretary Uy's invaluable contribution in accelerating digital transformation across the bureaucracy and improving the country's ICT sector," he added.
