Cabinet members under 'evaluation'

(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is "still evaluating" his Cabinet secretaries, Malacañang said Tuesday, amid speculation of a looming shakeup of the official family. Speaking to reporters, Malacañang Press Officer Claire Castro said no changes have been made in the leadership of departments and agencies since Vince Dizon was appointed to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to replace Jaime Bautista, and Jay Ruiz took over from Cesar Chavez as the head of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) earlier this month. "The president is still evaluating if there's a need for a change of leaders in each department. So, there is no change yet. Everything is still under evaluation," Castro said during a Palace press briefing. She said it was uncertain yet whether there would be a revamp within the Marcos Cabinet. "The president needs to evaluate every time if his secretaries, Cabinet members are doing well for the government, for the people," Castro said. "But as of now, there's no changes yet," the Palace official added. Asked about rumors that Presidential Security Command chief Jesus Nelson Morales and Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy are set to exit their posts, Castro said that there have been no personnel changes to date. "As of now, there's no changes. ... There has been no removal, transition, or transfer of position," she said. Meanwhile, Castro also confirmed that there would be changes in the leadership of the PCO under Ruiz. However, she said Ruiz has not yet required PCO officials to submit their courtesy resignations. "He said there will be changes and some will be retained, some may also be removed. So, let's just wait for the order of Secretary Jay Ruiz," Castro said. Ruiz and Castro were sworn into office by Marcos on Monday at the Palace.
