Speaker to hold high-level meet on floods
HOUSE Speaker Martin Romualdez will meet with several government offices on May 14 to discuss flood preparation and mitigation as the La Niña episode approaches.Romualdez has invited the secretaries of the Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and Department of the Interior and Local Government as well as the chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to the meeting.The meeting will focus on integrating infrastructure development, environmental management, and community-based approaches to form a comprehensive flood mitigation framework, he said.The insights and agreements from the meeting will be pivotal in shaping the national response to flood risks, Romualdez said.He assured that the public would be informed of the meeting's results so that they could better prepare for La Niña.The preparations will prioritize food security, sufficient water supply, energy availability, public health, public safety, mobility, and interconnectivity.Romualdez said the linkage between the national government and local government units must be strengthened to see to it that the preparations are fully implemented.
