Senate prepares for recess
THE Senate was scheduled for a legislative recess from September 28 to November 3, to allow members seeking re-election to file their certificates of candidacy for the May 2025 midterm polls. Sens. Bong Go, Imee Marcos, Ronald de la Rosa, Bong Revilla, Francis Tolentino, Lito Lapid and Pia Cayetano were among those eligible for re-election. "We have around 41 session days left before the end of the 19th Congress. With the little time left on our calendar, we're considering passing as many of the President's priority bills as possible. Many of these are already in the advanced stages of the legislative process. Rest assured, the Senate will work overtime to pass these measures," Senate President Chiz Escudero said. Among the priority measures for second reading were Senate Bill 2821 or the Amendments to the Right of Way Act; 2826 or the Mining Fiscal Regime; 2771 or the National Water Resources Management Act; 2781 or the E-Governance Act; 2699 or the Konektadong Pinoy Bill; 2474 or the Unified System of Separation, Retirement and Pension of Military and Uniformed Personnel; 2034 or the Mandatory Reserve Officers' Training Corps; and 2267 or the Waste-to-Energy Bill. The House of Representatives, on the other hand, would use the break to print its approved version of next year's national budget.
