PNP prepares for Traslacion

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said it had made extensive security preparations for the Traslacion, the procession on Thursday that is the high point of the annual fiesta in Quiapo, Manila. "Traslacion is a profound expression of faith and devotion. The PNP is fully committed to safeguarding every devotee, dedicating all necessary resources to ensure peace and order during this sacred occasion," said PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil. The security plan is being carried out in coordination with the Manila city government, religious organizations and other government agencies. Around 15,000 policemen will be deployed in key areas, including the procession route, high-density locations, and designated entry and exit points. PNP Public Information Office's Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said in a radio interview said the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) would also be fielding thousands of troops from the Army, Navy and Air Force for the Traslacion. The PNP said specialized units trained in crowd control would be on hand to maintain order and ensure the smooth flow of the procession, while the PNP Intelligence Group and Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) would look out for potential physical and digital threats. Complementing PNP forces are medical teams and quick-response units. The Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and local traffic enforcers will manage traffic flow and implement rerouting plans to minimize disruptions for both devotees of the Black Nazarene and the general public. The PNP reminded the public to follow protocols, including avoiding bringing prohibited items such as bladed or pointed objects, backpacks, or any items that may pose safety risks. "We call on devotees and the public to cooperate with security protocols, report any suspicious activities, and prioritize safety. Your vigilance and cooperation are vital to the success of this event," Marbil said. Regular advisories will be issued to keep the public informed of safety guidelines and updates regarding the event. "Security is a shared responsibility. Through unity and collaboration, we aim to make Traslacion 2025 a secure and spiritually enriching experience for everyone," Marbil said.
