'Fort Santiago, Maestranza absolutely stunning'

FIRST lady Liza Araneta-Marcos recently shared updates on the government's rehabilitation of the Pasig River. In an Instagram post, Araneta-Marcos said finishing touches have been made to Phase 3 of the "Pasig Bigyang Buhay Muli" project, which she said is "turning out to be absolutely beautiful." "Fort Santiago, Plaza de Armas and the Maestranza are slowly coming back to life — and they're absolutely stunning. Seeing the transformation was nothing short of inspiring!'' she said. ''Mark your calendars because the next phase is set to be unveiled in mid-February, and it's going to be breathtaking!'' she added. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will lead the inauguration of Phase 3, which features the 305-meter Fort Santiago Riverwalk. The walkway is expected to be a major draw for visitors, providing a scenic and convenient link between the historic citadel of Fort Santiago and the revitalized Pasig River Esplanade. On July 25, 2023, the President issued Executive Order (EO) 35, mandating the "rehabilitation of the Pasig River to its historically pristine condition conducive to transport, recreation and tourism." The order also established the Inter-Agency Council for the Pasig River Urban Development, chaired by the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development, which was tasked to develop a master plan for the rehabilitation project. The first lady last week witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Philippine government and the non-profit Clean Rivers Abu Dhabi to restore the Pasig River.
