DepEd to release P20K incentive on Dec 20
(UPDATE) THE Department of Education (DepEd) said on Monday that it was set to start releasing the P20,000 Service Recognition Incentive (SRI) for public school teachers and nonteaching staff starting Dec. 20. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had ordered the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the DepEd to work on providing P20,000 SRI — an increase from P18,000. "This is a historic moment for DepEd, as we are able to grant the highest SRI ever for our workforce," Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara said. The DepEd chief thanked the president and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman. "We are deeply grateful to President Marcos Jr. for his steadfast support in prioritizing the welfare of teachers and staff who serve as the backbone of the education sector," Angara said. "We also thank DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman for working with us to provide this incentive to our personnel. It is a testament to how much we value the dedication and sacrifices of our education frontliners, especially as they continue to ensure learning excellence amidst all challenges," he added. The DepEd said that after the Office of the President issued Administrative Order (AO) 27 authorizing the grant of incentives to government workers, it started processing the requirements for the disbursement of the SRI 2024 — the biggest in history for DepEd. It said that it was a first for DepEd staff "to receive the maximum grant allowed."
