DepEd, IBP to provide free legal aid for teachers
THE Department of Education (DepEd) and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) have teamed up to provide free legal aid to DepEd teachers and school-based non-teaching staff. A memorandum of agreement (MoA) formalizing the partnership was signed on Monday. Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara said the memorandum would benefit not only 800,000 teachers but also 100,000 school administrative officers, accountants, clerks and bookkeepers. The DepEd said the partnership with IBP would give the teachers and non-teaching staff "access to legal advice and assistance in disputes and other legal concerns." IBP officials, including IBP President Antonio Pido and Executive Vice President and Governor for Western Mindanao Allan Panolong, said the initiative aligned with the IBP's commitment to community service and supporting teachers, the DepEd said. Teachers will not only be getting the praise that they deserve but public service and appreciation for their sacrifice, Angara said. Public school teachers will benefit from the expanded career progression and medical allowance initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration, he added.
