Below minimum wage earners can avail of AKAP
THE Department of Labor and Employment said workers earning below minimum wage were eligible for government aid under the Ayuda sa Kapos Ang Kita Program (AKAP). "Those earning below minimum wage can secure salary certification from their employers and submit them to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)," said Labor Undersecretary Benjo Benavidez on television on Friday, noting it was mentioned in the special provisions of the General Appropriations Act. The current daily minimum wage is P645 for the non-agriculture sector and P608 for agriculture, service or retail (with 15 employees below) and manufacturing employees with below 10 employees. AKAP is a government assistance program under the DSWD and the National Economic Development Authority. "Beneficiaries went through a process and their qualifications were screened, and their entitlement for the AKAP will be seen in public records, and the Commission on Audit has the right to determine if the people's money was used properly," Benavidez said.
