Times columnist Chua among 10 top influencers
(UPDATE) HISTORIAN and The Manila Times columnist Michael Charleston "Xiao" Chua is among the Ten Outstanding Young Filipino Influencers (TOYFI), its Facebook page announced on Tuesday. On Facebook, Chua thanked everyone who supported him in this venture and even admitted he was prepared to lose the nomination. "When I heard the stories of the other nominees, I was prepared to lose because it seemed they contribute more to society, but being among the 10 reminds me that the roles of historians, teachers, professors and history are still important in nation-building," Chua said in Filipino. An assistant professional lecturer of history at the De La Salle University, Chua was formerly a segment host for "Xiao Time" on PTV-4 and was a panelist on the former ABS-CBN show "Bottomline with Boy Abunda." Chua runs his "Walking History" column in The Manila Times every Tuesday, which generally talks about anything related to Philippine history. Joining Chua among TOYFI's honorees were construction industry advocate Engr. Clark Ferrer (aka Mr. Contractor), clinical nutritionist and lifestyle medicine specialist Dr. Marc Dexter "Dex" Macalintal, Ask Lex PH Academy founder and chief executive officer Dr. Felix Concepcion Veroya, AllFood Chief Executive Officer Felix Niño Asuncion, chef and content creator Gelo Guison, DadbudPH founder Joey Ong, JCI Philippines Regional Vice President Joven Bernardos, lawyer Myra "Maimai" Rivera-Caroy, and teacher Ne-A Bongalbal.
