P13.7B worth of drugs confiscated under Marcos' watch
THE Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) reported on Wednesday that P13.7 billion worth of illegal drugs had been seized by government operatives during the first two years of leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. PNP-DEG Director BGen. Eleazar Matta said 1,674 anti-drug operations from July 1, 2022, to Oct. 7, 2024, resulted in the arrest of 1,903 perpetrators. Among the biggest achievements was the largest seizure of methamphetamine hydrochloride in the country's law enforcement history, totaling 1,717.61 kilograms with a value of P11,679,791,248. Matta added that 2,152.20 kilograms of marijuana leaves and plants were seized, amounting to P1,835,431,560, along with 48.70 kilograms of ketamine valued at P243,360,000. Other drugs confiscated during the period include 0.58 kilograms of cocaine worth P3,074,000, 1,343 pieces of ecstasy valued at P2,283,100, and 1.96 kilograms of kush marijuana valued at P2,937,750. Matta said that from April 1 to October 7, the PNP-DEG, following orders of PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, conducted 410 successful operations. "These operations led to the arrest of 468 individuals. The total value of drugs confiscated during this time soared to P2,213,630,718, encompassing significant quantities of shabu and marijuana, alongside smaller amounts of cocaine, ecstasy, kush marijuana, and ketamine," he said.
