Go vows support for barangay officials
SEN. Bong Go said he would push for measures that will provide better compensation, security of tenure, and benefits for barangay (village) officials. Go added that Senate Bill 197, or the Magna Carta for Barangay, seeks to officially recognize barangay leaders as regular government employees. The senator made the statement during the Liga ng mga Barangay (LNB) National Congress – Cluster 4 at SMX Convention Center on Tuesday. The event was attended by 4,000 barangay officials from various regions of the country. Go said barangay officials play a pivotal role in ensuring good governance at the grassroots level, particularly in disaster preparedness and socioeconomic growth. He promised to support barangay programs and initiatives that improve infrastructure, disaster resilience, and overall quality of life. The event was attended by several national and regional LNB officials, including LNB National President Maria Katrina Jessica Dy of Isabela, Secretary General Celestino Martinez III of Cebu, Executive Vice President Maria Martina Gimenez of Leyte, Vice President for Luzon Ramon Ortega Jr. of La Union, Vice President for Visayas Julius Tajanlangit of Antique, Auditor Marcelino Fernandez of Dagupan City, Executive Secretary Richard Julius Sablan of Negros Occidental, Cultural Advisor Rebecca Padilla of Camarines Norte, and Political Advisor Abdul Rashid Balindong of Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
