Go assists victims of Parañaque fire

SEN. Bong Go assisted fire victims in Parañaque City to help them rebuild their houses and recover from the disaster. Go visited Parañaque on October 3 to demonstrate his commitment to serve and show compassion to Filipinos in need. "Let's bring government services closer to our countrymen who need it the most. We will continue to serve you because it is my vice to serve, and I believe that service to people is service to Allah," said Go in Filipino. Go reminded the victims to prioritize and value life more than other material things, saying, "To the fire victims, don't worry. I told you before that belongings can be bought, and money can be earned, but money cannot buy life. Let's take care of each other's lives and health." Go and his Malasakit team facilitated the distribution of food packs, snacks, vitamins, fans, shirts, masks, and basketballs and volleyballs to 346 beneficiaries gathered at Barangay La Huerta Hall. Shoes, bicycles, mobile phones and watches were also given to select recipients. Go, in coordination with the local government of Parañaque City headed by Mayor Eric Olivarez, also collaborated with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) so that the beneficiaries could avail of financial support through the Integrated Shelter Assistance Program. The program provides one-time emergency shelter support for households with damaged houses to help them rebuild. The senator thanked his fellow government officials, including Rep. Edwin Olivarez, Mayor Olivarez, Raymundo Foronda of DHSUD-National Capital Region and Barangay Captain Johnny Co, for their unwavering service to the Filipino people. Go also highlighted that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is undergoing a modernization program to enhance its capabilities and readiness to respond to fire-related incidents. Republic Act (RA) 11589, known as the BFP Modernization Act of 2021, was primarily authored and co-sponsored by Go in the Senate. This law establishes a 10-year modernization program for the BFP, which includes acquiring modern fire equipment, recruiting additional firefighters and providing specialized training. Go, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, encouraged those with health issues to seek medical assistance from nearby Malasakit Centers at the Ospital ng Parañaque or any of the 30 centers across Metro Manila. Go is the principal author and sponsor of RA 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. Currently, 166 Malasakit Centers are operational nationwide, poised to assist with patients' medical expenses. The Health Department reported that the Malasakit Center program has aided over 15 million Filipinos.
