DoT eyes stronger PH-Spain relations
TOURISM Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco met Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain Philippe J. Lhuillier in a courtesy meeting at the Department of Tourism (DoT) Office in Makati City on Thursday.Ambassador Lhuillier presented his ideas on the Spanish tourism source market, as well as the Philippine Embassy's current activities and planned events aimed at strengthening the two countries' political, economic and cultural connections.He also discussed measures aimed at encouraging more Spanish tourists to visit the Philippines, particularly the Centro de Filipinas en Madrid, which was created during his term of duty.He also proposed many ways in boosting tourism between the two nations, with a special emphasis on strengthening connectivity and promoting educational tourism.Secretary Frasco expressed her appreciation for the ambassador's actions."Your efforts in making the Philippines' presence known in Spain are very helpful to the country, and we're very interested in expanding our market there," Frasco said.Secretary Frasco also offered the DoT's hand of collaboration to the ambassador in response to his connectivity proposals through the Department's Routes Development Team and committed to continue supporting the embassy's projects through the DoT London Office.Spain is currently the 19th largest source market for international tourists to the Philippines.The Philippines received 23,663 foreign arrivals from Spain between January and July 2024, compared to 34,063 arrivals in 2023.
