DOH: Dengue cases Oct 20-Nov 2 down 17%
THE number of reported dengue cases from Oct. 20 to Nov. 2 decreased from two weeks ago, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday. "About 17,033 cases were recorded from Oct. 20 until Nov. 2, 2024 — that is 17 percent lower compared to 20,498 cases recorded from Oct. 6 to Oct. 19, 2024," it said. However, dengue cases from Jan. 1 to Nov. 16 have reached 340,860 nationwide, or 81 percent higher than the 188,574 cases logged for the same period in 2023. A total of 881 deaths with a 0.26 percent case fatality rate (CFR) was likewise recorded for the first 11 months of this year. The DOH noted that this year's CFR is lower compared to last year's 0.34 percent due to advanced screening, testing and appropriate medical treatment. The public is reminded to clean areas that accumulated water during tropical cyclones Kristine (international name Trami), Leon (Kong-Rey), Marce (Yinxing), Nika (Toraji), Ofel (Usagi), and Pepito (Man-yi) to destroy mosquito-breeding places. Those experiencing symptoms like high fever, severe headache, body aches and pains, vomiting and rashes are encouraged to see a physician immediately.
