DepEd lauded for plan to boost students' IT skills

A THINK tank was all praises on Sunday for the Department of Education for its plans to arm students with skills in information technology (IT) and digital literacy, which is the top requirement in today's workforce. Nick Conti of the Click Party-list said they support the move of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara, who committed to enhance the digital literacy and IT skills of Filipino students. "The Click Party-list has long championed the importance of digital literacy, and we are pleased to see that Secretary Angara is prioritizing this aspect. His focus on coding, real-time analytics, and technological integration aligns perfectly with our goals of improving computer literacy, innovation, connectivity, and knowledge (Click) across all levels of education," Conti said. "In today's rapidly changing digital world, it is critical that Filipino students are equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in the global workforce. The focus on IT skills will not only make our students more competitive but will also open new opportunities for innovation and economic growth," he added. Angara bared the plan at the 4th Philippine-Singapore Business and Investment Summit, where he emphasized the integration of technology and coding in the Philippine educational curriculum. Conti emphasized the importance of collaboration between government, educational institutions, and the private sector to ensure that these digital initiatives reach every Filipino student, regardless of geographic or economic barriers. "We must ensure that no student is left behind, and that access to technology is made equitable across the nation," he added. Conti said that they stand ready to support DepEd's initiatives and are committed to pushing forward policies and programs that enhance digital literacy, IT skills, and innovation among Filipino learners.
