Alice Guo: 'I am not a spy'

(UPDATES) DISMISSED Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo again denied that she is a Chinese spy after a documentary shown during the House quad committee hearing on Friday night alleged that a Chinese tycoon in jail in Thailand tagged her as one. Davao Oriental 2nd District Rep. Cheeno Miguel Almario showed an excerpt of the documentary produced and aired on Al Jazeera English, where the tycoon, She Zhijiang, revealed through his dossier that Guo Hua Ping, the alleged Chinese name of Guo, is a state agent. In the documentary, She said that he used his handler's mobile phone to speak to Guo in the Philippines, adding that Guo wanted She to fund her campaign in 2022. "I really didn't want to offend the government of the Philippines, so I didn't give her any money," She said in the documentary. The documentary also said that Guo is the daughter of Lin Wen-yi and was born and grew up in Fujian. She also advised Guo to "speak the truth" as "China cannot be trusted." "Look at what happened to me. If you don't want to be eliminated, you should tell the world the truth," She said. After the video was shown, Guo angrily denied the allegation and said she did not know She and never asked for campaign funds during the campaign period. "I want to tell our countrymen that I love the Philippines," Guo told lead chairman and Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers in Filipino. Guo said she believed that government agencies would also prove that she was not a Chinese spy in the course of their investigation. She also said that she would want to file charges against She for describing her as a Chinese state agent. "I don't know how, but I will find a way; I will speak to my lawyer and to the network; I will file charges," Guo said in Filipino. Asked by Pwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Rep. Margarita Ignacia Nograles what She stood to gain from saying she was a spy, Guo retorted that it would be best to ask the tycoon. "I love the Philippines. I am a Filipino; I am not a spy," Guo said. During the same hearing, Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio Gonzales Jr. and Deputy Speaker David Suarez explained through a matrix the different criminal activities where Michael Yang, the former business adviser of former president Rodrigo Duterte, was involved alongside his associate Allan Lim. "These Chinese nationals are setting up corporations all over the country, taking advantage of our laws by perpetrating and promoting illegal activities, to the great prejudice of our country and the Filipino people," Gonzales said in his presentation. Suarez said that there has been a "criminal enterprise" operating in the country with "quiet impunity," "And out of these operations, they are monopolizing the crimes that strike at the very basic fundamental rights — human trafficking, kidnapping, prostitution, murder, love scams, crypto scams and all other cyber scams," Suarez added. Suarez alleged that Yang and Lim used legitimate businesses as fronts for their criminal activities, with DCLA Plaza, a mall in Davao City, being used as a hub for Yang's drug distribution network. He also said that another company, Brickhartz Technology, is allegedly involved in kidnapping cases and is linked to Xionwei Technology Co. Ltd., a Philippine offshore gaming operation (POGO) connected with Lim. Both companies are linked to the raided Baofu compound in Bamban, Tarlac, which is connected to Guo. Yang and Lim, according to the committee, were also linked to Lucky South 99, which operates a POGO hub in Porac, Pampanga, and is connected to Cassandra Li Ong. Suarez also alleged that Tony Yang, the elder brother of Michael Yang, is the "architect" behind the criminal operations of the Yang brothers in the country. Yang was apprehended at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on September 19 for his involvement in illegal activities. "This is a serious threat to our national security and to our very sovereignty as a nation," Suarez said. Gonzales urged the public to rally behind the quad committee as he said that their fight is not just the fight of Congress but for every Filipino. "The work of the quadcomm is not yet over. This investigation that we have given our time and our effort is just the start of it," Gonzales said in Filipino.
