It was a sweet victory for Gilas Pilipinas!
After 61 years, the Philippines once again ruled men’s basketball in the Asian Games as the national team took down Jordan in the finals, 70-60, in Hangzhou, China on Friday en route to the gold medal.
The last time the Philippines won a gold medal in the Asian Games was in 1962, when it defeated China to cop its fourth straight crown in the continental tournament.
It was also the first time that the Philippines reached the gold medal match since winning the silver medal in 1990, and the country’s first semifinal appearance since its fourth place finish in the 2002 edition in Busan, South Korea.
Here are some photos of the team’s celebration in Hangzhou, China.
