Maxene Magalona just gave a look at her father Francis M’s work process from almost 30 years ago.

On Instagram, Maxene shared a clip from her time as a kid reporter on the informative youth program “5 and Up.” She was able to interview and spend the day with a very special subject — none other than her dad.

In the video taken in 1996, the late Master Rapper could be seen creating the album art for his album “Happy Battle” on a computer.

“Cute lang ‘yung pangalan niya, parang ikaw, cute na cute,” Francis M told a young Maxene, who gave him a big smile.

When Francis M said he had to go to the studio to finish the album, Maxene was only allowed to come if she gave him a kiss.

In a longer video posted by the actress’ younger sister Saab and Probe Archives, Maxene could be seen learning about the technical process of recording a song, which she said is harder than it looks. Francis M’s wife and Maxene’s mom Pia could also be seen recording backing vocals.

“Mahirap kung hindi mo hilig, pero kami, mahilig ako dito. ‘Yung banda ko, talagang napaka galing so medyo we make it look like it’s fun and we actually have fun here. Kasi kung naiisip ko na puro trabaho, magiging boring,” Francis M said.

On what would have been his 59th birthday, Maxene honored her late dad with a short but meaningful message, calling him “the GOAT.” She also encouraged her supporters to play his songs and listen to his messages.

Last year, Maxene released a stripped-down version of the Francis M classic “Kaleidoscope World.” She wanted to highlight the powerful and timeless meaning of the ’90s song. Maxene also dedicated her healing journey to her dad.

In 2022, Francis M appeared as a hologram at the Eraserheads reunion concert. He performed his verse in the opening number “Superproxy” alongside his sons Elmo and Arkin.

Francis “Kiko” Magalona died in 2009 due to leukemia. The Master Rapper’s hit songs include “Mga Kababayan,” “3 Stars and a Sun,” and “Ito ang Gusto Ko.”
