THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) distributed farm machinery worth P1.08 million to farming organizations in Misamis Occidental to improve farming activities in the said province.

The Southern Poblacion Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Beneficiaries’ Association (Carpba) received one single-pass rice mill worth P365,000; three floating tillers (mud boats) worth P240,000; and two hand tractors with trailers worth P250,000.

Also included were six knapsack sprayers worth P16,800 and P210,000 worth of fertilizers and pesticides.

Southern Poblacion Carpba President Pura Bolodo thanked the DAR as she reminded her members to use the support they received productively.

This was reiterated by Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer 2 Mohammad Abdul Jabbar Pandapatan who said the beneficiaries must also be responsible for maintaining the equipment.

The farm equipment was given through the DAR’s Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Project Major Crop-Based Block Farm Productivity Enhancement.

This project aims to enhance and sustain the agricultural productivity of agrarian reform communities as an adaptation measure toward climate change resiliency under the government’s directives to improve the lives of farmers in the countryside.

The DAR also said a trust agreement was signed between the department and the Southern Poblacion Carpba.

To improve the distribution of assistance to agrarian reform beneficiaries, the DAR partnered with the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization to launch a database and information system in September.

Titled “Technical Support on the Enhancement of the Existing Information System for Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries in the Philippines,” the project’s objective is to develop a readily available, timely and reliable information system of beneficiaries for monitoring their socioeconomic status and support services provided.

The system will also generate profiles of beneficiaries that will serve as a basis for formulating more responsive policies, interventions and future actions related to agrarian reform.
