MANILA, Philippines — Immigration officers prevented a Chinese man from entering the country last Thursday due to his previous conviction for sex crimes in the US.

Kang Gong, 26, was intercepted upon his arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 from Hong Kong, according to Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco.

Gong was “excluded and booked on the first available flight to his port of origin,” Tansingco said, adding that Gong was intercepted after his name registered a hit in the Interpol’s database of convicted criminals.

According to the Interpol’s national central bureau in Manila, Gong was deported to China from the US on Oct. 22, 2021 after a circuit court in Michigan convicted him of three counts of child sexual abuse and using computers in distributing and promoting child pornography.

Gong committed the crime from April to July 2000 when he received more than 100 images and videos of sexually abused children and distributed them to the public, the BI said.

Gong’s name was included in the bureau’s blacklist of unwanted aliens.
